Betrayals (Strange Angels, Book 2) ReviewThe story picks up from where Strange Angels left off - with Dru and Grave getting whisked off to a "supposedly" safe-haven Schola. But there's a traitor in the midst, waiting for their chance to kill Dru. The book's filled with angst, action, and, without a doubt, secrets - which undoubtedly leads to betrayal.
In Betrayals, all the different sides of our favorite main characters are revealed. There's more to Dru than that tough girl persona she puts up to keep people away - there's a part of her who misses and grieves the people she lost, there's a scared little girl who doesn't know what to do at times, and there's a streak of stubbornness that runs through her unrelentingly. As for Graves, he's growing from that gangly goth boy that he was when Dru met him into the strong powerful loup-garou he was turned into and Christophe shows the fierce protectiveness he has for Dru.
Lili St. Crow's writing has gone from its slightly jumbled-up confusing descriptions to beautifully written, lyrical passages - definitely a step up from her first book where I found myself rereading parts to understand what was happening.
Overall, Lili St. Crow's world of djamphirs, werewulfen, and nosferatu definitely sinks its claws into you and will never let you go. It'll leave you wanting more.Betrayals (Strange Angels, Book 2) Overview

Defiance (Strange Angels, Book 4) ReviewDefiance, book 4 in the Strange Angels series, opens with a bang.
Dru is doing everything in her power to find and save her friend (oh but I want so much more) Graves from Sergej. While still dealing with the politics, training and other hassles/perks that accompany being a svetchka on the cusp of blooming.
Plus she's still trying to decrease the bad guy population.
AND figure out her feelings for Graves and Christophe.
Busy girl! But she manages to handle them all rather deftly. Gone is the wimpy whiny Dru from earlier. She is hella pissed that Sergej took Graves and will stop at almost nothing to get him back.
As much as I loathe the dreaded love triangle, I must admit Ms. St. Clair continues to handle this one rather deftly. Each has their equally strong pull with Dru.
Graves continues to be the heart of the story; even absent he is the core that keeps Dry going. (and if you want to know if, when, where, how and in what shape he shows up? I'm not telling..but to say READ IT) Christophe is her mentor, determined to hone the skills that may save her life when she faces Sergej.
The usual band of merry misfits is still around. And Dru actually gets her first female friend. I found their friendship to be quite honest and real. And it brought a nice layer to Dru we haven't seen before. And Ash? Ohhh who knew he could prove to be so complex? There is A LOT going on there, and I can't wait to see how that plays out.
But what really caught me, what had me ignoring all else to finish this book, were the subtle nuanced changes in how Dru sees the world now. How her experiences have changed her.
There is a scene in the beginning of the book when Dru crawls into bed after an especially hard day that just broke my heart with the quiet heartfelt weight of it.
Since this series first debuted, a plethora of strong smart girls who can think on their feet have shown up, with their own special set of skills, and their own angsty love issues..BUT...they still haven't touched the complexity of this series.

Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel ReviewIf you've read the other four books in the series you know the drill -- Dru basically just wants to be left to her own devices. She wants the Order to stop pressuring her, the vampires to stop gunning for her, Graves to make his move, and Christophe to - well, she's not sure what she wants from Christophe.
In some ways this book delivers. We get an action packed boss battle with Sergej. We get those feelings between Dru and Graves out there on the table. We find out if Christophe really cares for Dru, or if he's got ulterior motives.
Still, in the end this book is something of a let down. It's not that I can't believe it's all over, I just can't believe there's not more. Too many things were left unresolved. I actually looked for a post-epilogue after the epilogue. I was that desperate.
If this was just another installment in the series I'd give it a solid four-star rating and I'd be looking forward to the next book. Only there is no next book. I enjoyed the book while I was reading it, but I'm disappointed with the lack of an ending.Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel Overview
