The Phantom of Pemberley: A Pride and Prejudice Murder Mystery ReviewThe story occurs 14 months after Darcy and Elizabeth's wedding. They live an idyllic life, along with Georgiana. After the holidays, Lydia travels to visit them (obviously Wickham is not invited). Uninvited is Lady Catherine, Anne, and her companion Mrs. Jenkinson. Anne has finally started asserting herself, much to Lady Catherine's bewilderment. She arrives at Pemberley in hopes of Darcy's help.
A massive winter storm is heading towards Derbyshire while Lydia travels to Lambton. When Darcy and Elizabeth arrive to pick her up, they find that Lydia has invited her two traveling companions to seek shelter at Pemberley. Darcy finds an acquaintance of his, Adam Lawerence, a future earl, (and his mistress) is also stranded in the past-capacity inn.
Pemberley's guests fit within a wide spectrum: various ages, genders, professions, values, etc. The interactions between characters are very interesting.
Strange happenings begin to occur throughout the house. The servants call it "the shadow people" because these occurrences are unexplainable. Eventually, murder befalls the house... several actually.
Since the magistrate cannot reach Pemberley through the storm, Darcy must conduct the investigation himself. Of course, Elizabeth provides him with some helpful insights.
At first I thought the mystery aspect to be very "cookie cutter"; however, that was not the case. The mystery is well planned and executed. Perhaps a reader may guess it, but if you keep yourself focused in the Regency-era mind-set, it truly is a surprise. Also, the author works you into the conclusion gradually, so it's more plausible.
I have read two other books by Regina Jeffers. Neither are my favorite 'Pride & Prejudice' adaptations, but all are very well written and planned. Each book has progressively gotten better. This one is my favorite. This one starts off slowly, but builds up to the first murder. After that, the pace quickens quite a bit.
As a warning: do NOT read the author's note in the back prior to completing the novel. I did by accident (my eye caught a particular word...) and it ruined the "mystery" for me.The Phantom of Pemberley: A Pride and Prejudice Murder Mystery Overview

Only Mr. Darcy Will Do ReviewI read this when it was titled 'Something Like Regret'. FYI, they are the same book. This one may be edited slightly differently, but the story is wonderful.(There are no graphic scenes.) The writing is mature and poetic, the circumstances and situations are (mostly) believable, as are the characters.
I really liked getting to know one of the society women who's in love with Darcy - it was an interesting perspective. Seeing details of Elizabeth's life as a governess also added to the story. I particularly loved the chess scene with Darcy's cousin - he was a fun additional character. There were a few places where it was a bit contrived, especially toward the end, but it was still extremely enjoyable and very difficult to put down.
To me, this is one of the BEST variations out there. This is one I won't be re-selling!

As any reader of my reviews knows I love the "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies" series of books. I believe that the two books before this one are classics and I am pleased to tell you that this one is very much the same. I always loved the idea of the classic story being told with Zombies in the mix and the prequel just added to it. Now here we have a sequel that only adds to the wonderful story but sadly is bringing it to an end. Hopefully the return to this world one day and give as some more great stories.
The story picks up years after the first book with the married couple of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy. They have had a great marriage some four years later and things could not be going better, until. One day Fitz gets attacked and bitten by a Dreadful child and while Liz knows what she should do she does not kill him. Even though it would be the right thing to do, she instead seeks help from a lady named Catherine. The thing is she may know of a cure that could bring Fritz back. So off Liz goes with family in tact on another Zombie Slaughtering adventure.
The book is very well written and has that same great style the previous ones had and yet still is different. I don't know about what other people think but I found this one just as fun and funny as the previous two. I mean the way people really talked back then mixed in with the zombie attack, pure genius. You should also remember that things are not always what they seem, that is all I am going to say. All in all I really enjoyed this book like I did the previous two, I highly recommend this book to all who liked the first two, and even then you may like this even without reading those two.

Mr. Darcy's Obsession (Pride & Prejudice Continues) Review"Mr. Darcy's Obsession" is Abigail Reynolds' first new book in what seems like way too long. Her other Pride and Prejudice alternate stories are excellent and this one's no exception. After the wait for a new story, I was definitely not disappointed.
In "Obsession," Darcy never has a chance to propose to Elizabeth and leaves Rosings with an aching heart. Nearly a year later he learns that Mr. Bennet has died leaving the family in dire financial straits. Circumstances have forced Jane to marry a local shopkeeper, and Elizabeth is living in London as nanny for her aunt and uncle's children. Now her situation is even more beneath Darcy's than before. What will he do?
Although he knows he should stay away, Darcy can't help himself. At first he tells himself he'll just check on her, but when the opportunity presents itself, he "accidentally" runs into her in the park. During their talks, Elizabeth begins to see another side to Darcy, but of course, many misunderstandings ensue which threaten to separate them forever. In spite of the many opportunities Darcy has to walk away, he looks into those fine eyes and he's lost again.
What I love most about Abigail Reynolds is the way she brings Darcy and Elizabeth to life. After reading one of her books I feel as if I've just stepped back into the world they inhabit and we've had a good chat. The dialogue between them is a delight to read. Elizabeth continues to be witty and down to earth while Darcy is becoming more human as he learns to put the needs of his heart ahead of the approval of his family and society. Ms. Reynolds has also added some interesting, lively new characters to the mix as well as breathing life into some who are mentioned in P&P but never developed. They seem so real that they fit right in.
Clearly, this author has great affection for her characters. In fact, I'd say she's somewhat obsessed with Darcy and Elizabeth - and I'm glad of it. I'll be anxiously awaiting my next opportunity for a visit to Pemberley, and in the meantime, I'll have to satisfy myself with rereading some of Ms. Reynolds' earlier books.Mr. Darcy's Obsession (Pride & Prejudice Continues) Overview

Mr. Darcy's Diary: A Novel ReviewThe aspect of this novel by Amanda Grange which pleases me most is that she has been successful in turning Fitzwilliam Darcy into a flesh and blood man. Since Pride and Prejudice is essentially written from Elizabeth Bennet's point of view, at times I want an explanation of what Darcy is thinking. This book managed to do that for me. Even knowing that these words, thoughts and ideas do not come from Jane Austen, I am still completely satisfied with thinking "my" Mr. Darcy would have been like this. He was arrogant, he did believe in his own self-importance, he did interfere in Bingley's life. But, he also learned from Elizabeth and Bingley and the situations he found himself in that he could change. He didn't need to stay so stiff and formal. He could actually learn to tease and be teased and the world as he knew it would still remain on its axis.
I found this book to be slow going at first. I really didn't think I was going to be able to accept this Darcy as the same one who lives in my imagination. But a strange thing happened as I continued to read. I began to really like this man. Amanda Grange had made him a true, real, loveable person for me. As most of the other reviewers have said, I also am a huge fan of the Jane Austen books. Ms Grange does not try to be Jane Austen. She tries to be herself, giving us her version of how she thinks Fitzwilliam Darcy might have responded to his situations. I applaud her effort and recommend this book as a worthwhile read.
This is just a little extra information in case you get confused (as I did). This book came out in Britain in 2005 in hardcover and was titled DARCY'S DIARY. It has a full head portrait of Darcy on the cover, quite interesting but maybe just a little too feminine for "my" Darcy. The paperback was published in 2007 and is titled MR. DARCY'S DIARY. I, of course, was not careful and managed to buy them both. The paperback has only a partial portrait, probably because the publisher discovered that each of us has our own mental picture of Fitzwilliam Darcy. Both books are identical in every way except as I have stated. Now, my advice is to just read and enjoy one copy or the other.Mr. Darcy's Diary: A Novel Overview
