The Clone Empire ReviewHarris has survived. Despite the fact that the Unified Authority handed him a fleet of ships, manned by thousands of clones, with the sole purpose to use them as target practice for their new natural born navy. Surviving even when his enemies had far superior technology, and much better mobility. Even being shot, poisoned, and having the combat reflex that so defined him on the fritz, Harris has survived and so has his determination to have clone independence from their UA creators.
Still on Terraneau, with only a few thousand marines under his command. Harris knows that the wreckage in the sky above him doesn't account for nearly all of his missing fleet. Caught up playing politics with a man who wants to make himself king, General / Right Reverend Doctorow wants nothing more than for Harris and his marines to get off Terraneau so he can run the show unimpeded. Harris is recovering, though he's doubting himself in ways he's never doubted himself before; his courage, his physical ability.
When Harris discovers how his fleet escaped the battle above Terraneau, he risks his neck to go out and find them. The Enlisted Man's Empire is out there, they've liberated planets from the aliens who captured and cut them off, they have hundreds of ships, millions of soldiers, and one big problem. Harris is conscripted in handling the cancer in the Clone Empire before it takes them under. The problems for the Enlisted Man's Empire are only very tip of what's going on in the galaxy, and Harris, the clones, and the United Authority are not read for what's next.
I loved this book. While Harris is a general, he isn't tasked with commanding thousands of marines, in another all-out, do or die campaign. The Clone Empire feels like it goes back to the roots of what really drew me into the Harris series. Harris going from planet to planet, investigating, trying to get to the root of what the enemy's game is. There's intrigue, twists and turns you won't see coming, and Harris has absolutely no one he can really trust. Everyone is trying to play him for their own ends, Harris is aware of the predicament he's in, but he has no idea what's really coming. The book was exciting, beginning to end. There was large scale action and the hand to hand fighting in which you love seeing the last Liberator clone. The Clone Empire was a great read, Steven Kent brings it back to the roots of the series while still expanding the depth of the universe and characters. I can't wait to see what will happen next. The Clone Empire Overview

Gideon's War: A Novel ReviewI know I'm probably the only other person in this world other than that Tibetan monk living in Africa to never have seen `24', but I have heard of the show. So when I saw that a producer (executive no doubt) wrote a book... heck, why not check it out? Everyone else seems to be writing a freaking book. Actors, musicians, midgets (oops... little people), athletes, homeless folk, orange-skinned skanks from New Jersey, and prenatal babies. If those Darwin-reject yahoos that crashed the White House dinner can get a book (and TV) deal how hard can it be, REALLY!? Howard Gordon is exec. Producer for one of the baddest shows ON the tube, so what did he have to do? Put on his socks, grab his tall chai latte and say "I feel like writing a book today"? I doubt it but it's a likely enough story and it IS Hollywood right?
My nonchalant tongue-in-cheek attitude was quickly put in check as I started reading. Cutting through all my BS, I was completely taken with this book. This is an ecstasy pill of adrenaline for us thriller readers. The main man, Gideon, couldn't be more flawed and was actually getting on my damn nerves. A top negotiator on the world stage, Gideon is accustomed to using his words to get his meaning across. Usually he's very successful, and because of this the President has him on his team. Unfortunately irony's favorite bed mate is usually chaos, and their love child sprouts into Gideon's life, placenta and all, to bring him some serious hurt.
Gideon's brother is been accused of being a ruthless and severely bloodthirsty terrorist who is slaughtering his way across the Middle East. Gideon has some well placed misgivings but the amount of evidence leaves no room for doubt. His job: track him down and talk. If that fails? Well... Able, meet Cain. Be prepared for a journey as Gideon tracks down the only family he has left. We are taken us on a virtual peyote sit-n-spin of geographic locations, multicultural flavor, and "clinch it up" action. Blood, fighting, technology, villains to loathe, and some slight sexual tension is just some of what puts `Gideon's War' on my list (already) of `Jason's badass novels of 2011'. (Yes I know it's only January 5th, but just go with me here).
I mentioned earlier that Gideon was getting on my nerves. Dammit, that's because he was! This fool was being chased, shot at, set-up, handcuffed, damn near blown up and he was trying to stick by his "I don't use guns anymore" mantra. Lord help this fool! I'm not going to give away the story, but how long do you think he can keep up that ever so sweet motto while nine inch bullets are cutting him new sideburns? Whatever magic Gordon used for `24' translates nicely in `Gideon's War'. Everything about this book was just right. The tempo, the violence, the betrayal, and (of course) the male bravado with that fresh football locker room smell. Because this is a thriller and the main character is a guy who gets out of impossible situations, you'll hear comparisons to past books/characters/movies. Ignore them all. This one totally stands on its own.Gideon's War: A Novel Overview

The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska's Arctic Wilderness ReviewJames Campbell reports the life of Heimo Korth and the family he has raised, the last family of trappers to remain in the National Arctic Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.
Although this book has one foot in the "wilderness adventure can you believe anyone can survive this" genre (Heimo regularly traps in -50 weather and even jogs in -20 weather), it is also a kind of domestic family saga, almost a "Little House on the Prairie" but the prairie is the Arctic.
Heimo, his wife Edna, and daughters Rhonda and Krin, face near tragedies and real tragedies lost in blizzards, or facing a broken-down snow machine miles from home, or jumping from ice flow to ice flow in desparate hope of making it back to shore, or falling through overflow ice on the river. Remarkably though, the main thing I'll remember about this book is the sense it conveys of Heimo's redemption (lost and alcoholic, he came to Alaska to trap in the 70s, but dried up and built a family there), and of the love and affection of a family who have no one but each other for months on end. This is a real testament to Campbell's skill as a journalist and author.
The adventure and drama of the Arctic keep the reader turning pages like a good mystery but the after-effect is one of love and integrity. The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska's Arctic Wilderness Overview

The Squad: Perfect Cover ReviewTHE SQUAD: PERFECT COVER
JENNIFER LYNN BARNESRating: 5 Enchantments
Toby Klein is your typical unpopular high school sophomore, with a talent for computer hacking. When she suddenly finds herself invited to a meeting of the varsity cheerleading squad, she's sure it's some sort of practical joke, but her younger brother Noah couldn't pull something like this off. And when she gets a note written in invisible ink, Toby can't help thinking there's something more going on - after all, she's not exactly the cheerleader type, right?
THE SQUAD: PERFECT COVER pulled me into the story from the first page. From the coded first few notes to the one written in invisible ink, it's obvious there's more to the cheerleaders than meets the eye. Beneath the school is a high-tech area called The Quad which belongs solely to The Squad. There, the ten members receive their instructions via audio file - an event makes Toby want to say `good morning, Charlie' more than once.
After a somewhat frightening stage-six makeover that includes a trek to Victoria's Secret as part of her first mission, Toby is almost unrecognizable to herself not to mention half the school. But when her new makeover is more of a hit than expected, she's given the task of using one of the hottest guys in school in order to plant a bug in his father's office.
I loved the unique world Ms. Barnes created for THE SQUAD. From a secret lair beneath the school to bulletproof push-up bras and a holographic cheerleading squad, this group of underage government operatives has everything imaginable and then some. Toby's a very likable character, who goes from being an unpopular hacker to an undercover member of THE SQUAD. Faced with the fact she's now not only an undercover agent, but a gasp, an actual cheerleader as well, Toby has to learn to deal with her newfound popularity, the attention of hottie Jack and the fact that certain members of the team aren't exactly her number one fans.
I read through this book in one night and am very excited I have book two on my desk waiting for me to read. THE SQUAD promises to be a great series! I look forward to reading more from Ms. Barnes.

No Passengers Beyond This Point ReviewI don't think there is any author out there that writes kids characters as well as Gennifer Choldenko. With the Tompkins kids, she has created a family of siblings that are portrayed so realistically that when all the crazy things start happening to them, the reader is just sucked right along for what turns out to be a very crazy ride.
India is 14 and totally self obsessed, much like any young teenage girl. Look a little deeper and you will see her insecurity and overwhelming desire to be loved and appreciated. Finn is 12 and the worrier of the family. He wants to make everything right for everybody. Perhaps my favorite character is Mouse, the six year old genius. She's only in kindergarten but does fifth grade math and asks questions about everything. Her brain travels a hundred miles per hour and the author does a fantastic job with her dialogue. Named Mouse because she squeaks so much, she is a character of marvelous depth and charm.
All of these characters are dealing with some harsh realities. Their mom has just told them that the bank is foreclosing on their house and they have to move to Colorado to stay with an uncle that none of them have ever met. For India it means leaving her friends, for Finn it means leaving his basketball dreams, and for Mouse, it means leaving their mother who has to stay behind and finish out the school year.
This has all the makings of a realistic story about an increasingly common circumstance, but when the plane the kids are traveling on makes an early landing, the story shifts dramatically into the fantasy realm. It's quite a shock, but the author handles it seamlessly and before you know it you are traveling down the highway in a pink taxi with feathers. I can't really speak to much more of the plot without giving too much away, except to say that the kids go on an adventure that will test their mettle and help them come to some realizations about their own strengths and how much they love each other. The story turns into something that is highly original, very clever, and completely well imagined.
As an adult reader, I really loved this story. It will be a challenging read for any kid age 10 and up. Some elements can initially be confusing, but any reader who enjoys solving puzzles, or just figuring things out will get a big kick out of this one. The author doesn't just lay the story out for you, you have to do a bit of thinking and pay close attention to detail. Those that do will be rewarded with not only a grand story of adventure, but also a tale of some unexpected depth. There is quite a bit of humor, and also some deep felt emotions. This is an enthusiastic recommend, especially for middle schoolers on up.No Passengers Beyond This Point Overview

The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis ReviewFor the price, you cannot beat the quality of this book. First off, the hard cover is a very nice size, not the usual comic or trade paperback size, but an inch or two bigger on both sides. The color artwork jumps from the pages and is very clean and crisp. The stories themselves are good and very lengthy, it seemed, compared to the usual single comic issues, with a lot of relevant plot material. The slip cover is very nicely done and the book binding seems to be sound.
When I read that the publishers were going to include a reprint of the very first Simpson's Comic, I assumed it would be bound with the rest of the hardback. To my delight, it is actually seperate, placed in a sleeve on the inside of the back cover. The cover to the reprint seems to be a bit thicker than the original #1, due perhaps for longer durability. Inside a out, a fine reprint indeed. The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis Overview

Out of the Black ReviewSometimes you get more than you pay for. The $2.99 Kindle edition of Lee Doty's "Out of the Black" is a bargain. "Out of the Black" is an amalgam of cop thriller, science fiction and magical fantasy. The mix is highly entertaining. The plot is taut, fast moving, and original. The prose is solidly crafted. Characters are fully realized, engaging and likable. The plot lines of the two protagonists cleverly interweave to converge in a rousing climax. The dialog is delicious; I often found myself laughing out loud. Particularly enjoyable is the cop banter between protagonist Detective Ping Bannon and coworkers. On the funny meter "Out of the Black" compares well to, for example, "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson.
My only nitpick with "Out of the Black" is the omnipresence of '80's pop cultural references. For instance, Blade Runner: The Director's Cut" is a cult classic for my generation, but perhaps of limited wider appeal. Such references make "Out of the Black" less accessible to a wider audience, and may ultimately detract from the book's ability to stand the test of time.
I suspect Lee Doty is the outcome of a secret genetic experiment combining DNA from Richard K. Morgan and Dean Koontz. If so, he's an experiment gone happily awry. Doty's work combines the best of Morgan and Koontz, and exhibits a refreshing optimism and faith in humanity lacking in either. "Out of the Black" does not fit neatly into any single genre; no doubt this makes selling books tough for Mr. Doty. But for jaded readers lucky enough to find him, the result is pure delight. I can't wait for more.

The Heat Islands: A Doc Ford Novel (Doc Ford Novels) ReviewThe title refers to those vast expanses of concrete developers have produced as they've urbanized native Florida. It's only mentioned once in the book, but it sets the environmental tone for the story, and for the main character, Doc Ford.
First the good part: White is a top writer with a compact style. He knows the Florida gulf coast locale; his story and characters are consistent and believable, for the most part. This is a series novel. The anchor is Doc Ford, a marine biologist living at a small marina on Sanibel Island. He seems to be loosely patterned after Steinbeck's Ed Ricketts ("The Log From the Sea of Cortez"). Sometimes series novels get a little predictable. I didn't notice it so much here, because this is White's second in the series, and his style is never sing-song. But there were a few characters that I feel sure we'll hear from again in other novels: Dewey, Doc's casual girlfriend, a world-class tennis contender; Walda, Dewey's Romanian tennis friend; and an assortment of fishing guides who work out of the Dinkin's Bay Marina. Others I'm sure we'll never hear from again. You can tell.
The plot orbits the death of a very unpopular local marina owner. White manages to weave some romance and assorted other intrigues into the story before it's over.
Doc's biological knowledge, his keen deductive ability, and his sharp observational skills turn detective once again in this case. Doc also has the enviable ability to learn things but not mention them until just the right time. Remarkable. At first the cops don't want him involved in the investigation, but he eventually solves the case and ties up the loose ends.
Now the bad part: Doc is a formula character, appealing, but still paperback chic: ex Navy SEAL, worked for the CIA and the NSA (we believe, White also has the ability to keep secrets), quiet, soft-hearted--involved in sea anemones, fish larvae, etc. But when the chips are down, and they're down twice in this book, Doc's old killer instinct surfaces, and he turns his very dark skills against the bad guys. You can tell when he's about to do that, a strange look comes in his eyes. "Like he's, what-do-you-call-it, not all there." Have you heard all this before? What the heck, it's only fiction. I can suspend belief for the short time it takes to read this book, but I sometimes yearn for an anti-anti-hero.
Read this book by Randy Wayne White. It's good entertainment, and you won't be tempted to join the Sierra Club after you've finished. The Heat Islands: A Doc Ford Novel (Doc Ford Novels) Overview

Betrayals (Strange Angels, Book 2) ReviewThe story picks up from where Strange Angels left off - with Dru and Grave getting whisked off to a "supposedly" safe-haven Schola. But there's a traitor in the midst, waiting for their chance to kill Dru. The book's filled with angst, action, and, without a doubt, secrets - which undoubtedly leads to betrayal.
In Betrayals, all the different sides of our favorite main characters are revealed. There's more to Dru than that tough girl persona she puts up to keep people away - there's a part of her who misses and grieves the people she lost, there's a scared little girl who doesn't know what to do at times, and there's a streak of stubbornness that runs through her unrelentingly. As for Graves, he's growing from that gangly goth boy that he was when Dru met him into the strong powerful loup-garou he was turned into and Christophe shows the fierce protectiveness he has for Dru.
Lili St. Crow's writing has gone from its slightly jumbled-up confusing descriptions to beautifully written, lyrical passages - definitely a step up from her first book where I found myself rereading parts to understand what was happening.
Overall, Lili St. Crow's world of djamphirs, werewulfen, and nosferatu definitely sinks its claws into you and will never let you go. It'll leave you wanting more.Betrayals (Strange Angels, Book 2) Overview

The Secret War (Jack Blank Adventure) ReviewPicking right up where Jack Blank left off, Jack finds himself in a new adventure that will teach him an important lesson about hope, honesty, endless possibilities, and the courage to take hold of his future. With the growing threat of the Rustov attacking, and his secret being leaked, Jack crosses the line with secret keeping into lying, not only to himself, but to his friends. In this fantastic action filled sequel to The Accidental Hero, Jack Blank once again proves why he's earned the title hero.
I loved the first book in this series (you can read my 5 star review here) and I've been anxiously awaiting to find out what was in store for Jack next. One of the things I love about this series is the way in which Matt has created a realistic, relatable hero in Jack for younger readers. Even heros make mistakes, fall from grace and learn their lessons, which Jack does. Jack Blank has a secret that ties him to the Rustov, only this time his secret isn't just a threat to him, it's a threat to everyone around him and their future. Not to mention Jonas Smart still despises him and will do anything he can to remind the people that Jack has ties to the Rustov. For these reasons alone, I completely understood why he was afraid to tell anyone about it. As the plot twists continue and the war is getting closer, Jack learns the importance of honesty, trusting in those closest to you, and believing in himself.
One of the characters I love in the series is Stendeval. What Yoda is to Luke in Star Wars, Stendeval is to Jack. He's full of wisdom and advice, often says things that readers can also take away from the story like:
"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." -page 109
" Whenever you encounter a problem in life, it simply means that your situation has changed. What you need to do is take steps to deal with the new situation." - page 269
"What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are small matters when compared with what lies within us." - page 510
I also love the fact that Stendeval "knows" the people he quotes, and he mentions that before he quotes them. Stendeval's wisdom isn't only a source of wisdom and a confidence booster for Jack, but to those in the inner circle who sometimes get blinded by their own desires and fears. Most importantly he teaches Jack to not fear his future.
With out giving away too much of what happens in The Secret War, I really enjoyed the direction that the story took. There are new characters introduced that pose a big threat, there are valuable lessons that are learned and some fabulous twists with the plot and characters that kept me glued to the story. I loved the twist towards the end of the book when a character is re-introduced into the story. All I can say is wait to find out who it is!! I've said this before in my review for Jack Blank, I love that there's a place were super heros live and that there's a book were anything is possible and that allows readers imaginations to take flight. Even though I'm not in the targeted age range for this series, I love being swept up into it's world. I can not wait for son to read these books. I highly recommend picking this series up this summer. It's a fantastic story with heros, action and learning to believe in yourself. The Secret War (Jack Blank Adventure) Overview

Storm Runners Book 2: The Surge ReviewChase and his friends Nicole and Rashawn have reached shelter from the hurricane. But they aren't safe yet.
They're stuck in a barn - with an elephant about to give birth. The lights are powered by a generator which is nearly out of juice. There is no extra gas in the barn.
Chase and Nicole believe they can make it to the truck where Chase's Dad keeps his supplies. They set off in hopes of returning soon.
A leopard is on the loose. They soon discover the lions have escaped their cages. Treading carefully to avoid the animals and mother nature, they make their way towards the supplies.
Will they be able to gather the gas and return safely to the barn?
My Thoughts: Just like the first book in this trilogy - this book is addictive, fast-paced action and danger kept me turning the pages. A wonderful book about battling Mother Nature, quick thinking, and working together against all odds. Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely) ReviewI have really conflicting thoughts about this book! Parts of Darkest Mercy I really liked, and parts of it truly pissed me off!
I'm a big fan of Melissa Marr, and I have loved this series, but this book was by far my least favorite :(
I think one of the biggest problems I had with Darkest Mercy was that it had way too many POV's! This book switched around from Naill's perspective, to Donia's, to Seth's, to Ash, Keenan, we even heard from Gabriel, Chela, and Far Dorcha. At times the POV changed so rapidly I felt like I was reading a soap opera. Right as something juicy was about to happen she would switch POV! It was highly frustrating. I felt as if she was trying really hard to pack everything in, and rather than getting the escapist tragic romance I look for in Melissa Marr's books I felt as if I was reading the rushed conclusion to a faery war epic!
Granted, many cool things happened in this book, so it wasn't a total loss. One of the things I really liked, without giving too much away, was that I felt as if I got some closure with the Leslie, Niall, Irial relationship (which has always been a favorite of mine). And I appreciate that she really did wrap the book up with an ending that left few, if any unanswered questions. However...
WARNING *SPOILERS* ABOUT THE ENDING******
I felt the ending was way too happy! I'm sorry. I like a happy ending as much as the next gal, but when everything works out for everyone (especially after there has been a major battle- and when the inside of the book says that some people lose everything) it just seems a little forced and unbelievable. I like a little bittersweetness. And yes, the book had it's bad and bittersweet moments, and I get why she ended it the way she did, it just wasn't the type of ending I was hoping for. It was perfect! Everyone got what they wanted, and that was hard for me to grasp. She tricked us a couple times into thinking it ended badly for some, but then it all worked out in the end! I hate it when people come back from the dead!
I guess overall I just didn't like this book as much as I had hoped. I had expected it would focus more on Ash, Seth, and Keenan, but it was all over the place with an ending that didn't fit the rest of the series.
That said, I did give it three stars because at times it was entertaining, and if you've read the rest of the series you should pick it up, just don't have super high hopes. I do however, think that people who are fans of Irial and Niall might be happy because they are in this book more than was expected, which at times was also very cool. Other times, not so much. At one point Nail goes insane and it is a little painful and confusing to read.

Wicked lovely is still one of my all time favorite books, but I will probably never re-read this book and I won't recommend it to others who haven't started to series.Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely) Overview

The Final Hour (The Homelanders) ReviewCharlie West woke up one morning to find himself being tortured by terrorists with absolutely no memory of what happened during the last year of his life. And, to make it worse, he's wanted by the police for the murder of his best friend. Over the next couple of months, Charlie is faced with a ridiculous amount of misfortune on his quest to clear his name and expose his would-be murderers.
I'm actually starting to think Andrew Klavan is incapable of writing a boring scene. Practically every sentence is packed to bursting with suspense. From a dogfight through the streets of New York to dodging subway trains in a shootout with the Homelanders, Klavan never lets up on the thrills.
And now, it's finally over. The final hour has come and gone, answering every question; revealing every mystery. Every fan of the previous books will need to get their hands on this truly satisfying conclusion to the insanely epic series. The Final Hour (The Homelanders) Overview

Defiance (Strange Angels, Book 4) ReviewDefiance, book 4 in the Strange Angels series, opens with a bang.
Dru is doing everything in her power to find and save her friend (oh but I want so much more) Graves from Sergej. While still dealing with the politics, training and other hassles/perks that accompany being a svetchka on the cusp of blooming.
Plus she's still trying to decrease the bad guy population.
AND figure out her feelings for Graves and Christophe.
Busy girl! But she manages to handle them all rather deftly. Gone is the wimpy whiny Dru from earlier. She is hella pissed that Sergej took Graves and will stop at almost nothing to get him back.
As much as I loathe the dreaded love triangle, I must admit Ms. St. Clair continues to handle this one rather deftly. Each has their equally strong pull with Dru.
Graves continues to be the heart of the story; even absent he is the core that keeps Dry going. (and if you want to know if, when, where, how and in what shape he shows up? I'm not telling..but to say READ IT) Christophe is her mentor, determined to hone the skills that may save her life when she faces Sergej.
The usual band of merry misfits is still around. And Dru actually gets her first female friend. I found their friendship to be quite honest and real. And it brought a nice layer to Dru we haven't seen before. And Ash? Ohhh who knew he could prove to be so complex? There is A LOT going on there, and I can't wait to see how that plays out.
But what really caught me, what had me ignoring all else to finish this book, were the subtle nuanced changes in how Dru sees the world now. How her experiences have changed her.
There is a scene in the beginning of the book when Dru crawls into bed after an especially hard day that just broke my heart with the quiet heartfelt weight of it.
Since this series first debuted, a plethora of strong smart girls who can think on their feet have shown up, with their own special set of skills, and their own angsty love issues..BUT...they still haven't touched the complexity of this series.
And the END?
B A N G! Full of win!

Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) ReviewRemy, the 19 year old protagonist is facing `the end of times'; a post-apocalyptic world where a rabies type virus has turned the majority of the population into zombies. Zombies that roam with an insatiable hunger and are particularly fond of human flesh; one bite, one splash of zombie blood or saliva in an open wound and you become infected. That is if you survive.
Remy and her 8 year old brother Max were brought to a government run quarantine by a group of soldiers who saved them during a zombie raid; Max was sick and stayed on a different floor in the medical wing. Beck, a soldier that took an interest in Remy and Max; taught her how to fight the zombies, not just with guns but with whatever was available, that along with her guts and instinct was a gift that saved her and others countless times.
Zombies overtake the quarantine, yet in all the fright, terror and pandemonium Remy manages to escape bringing along Harlow, an endearing 13 year old who refuses to stay. Amidst the chaos she finds out that only her brother Max and select government doctors and scientists were evacuated to a quarantine 'near' this one. Off into the Zombie filled wasteland they go. They'll soon find out that zombies aren't the only thing to fear.
During their travels they meet Blue, a medical intern with good insight and judgment, Lazlo, a famous recording artist who is a bit eccentric, anxious and easy on the eyes and my personal favorite; Ripley, a zombie killing lion who rocks! They make a sort of unspoken team together set out to find the quarantine, each for their own reasons. Along the way they face, among other terrifing ordeals crazy cults, Mad Max crazy wanna-be's and other 'humans' can be just as vicious as the zombies.
The horrors they face are ghastly and shocking, it'll leave your heart thumping like crazy, but the story is also heart wrenching and sad with so much depth of emotion. Every chapter takes you on a roller coaster ride of full of ups and downs; and the constant question of what's going to happen next? It's virtually impossible to put this book down.
Remy's character is strong, physically and emotionally; despite her gruff exterior and some of the harder choices and decisions she's forced to make, she is still vulnerable and compassionate. She has one main goal: Find Max! She'll risk anything to find him.
All of the main characters are believable and realistic; I've grown to care for them all. Their group dynamic is perfect and adds so much depth to the story. This is one fantastic read. Can we expect a follow up? I think the potentials there.
There are typographical errors but I could have cared less. The story was so great that it didn't stop my reading stride at all.
So, Amanda----When's the next one coming out? (I say as if she reads this, LOL) Can't hurt to ask!!!!

Thea Stilton and the Mystery in Paris (Geronimo Stilton Special Edition) ReviewMy child enjoys all the Thea Stilton books because they are adventures that are fast moving and fun. Mystery in Paris was my child's favorite Thea Stilton so far because Paris is a favorite city. The book is about fashion and style and recovering stolen dresses for a fashion show so that really went over well. I like the Thea Stiltons--they are mysteries/adventures with a girlie twist and reinforce the importance of friendship and teamwork.Thea Stilton and the Mystery in Paris (Geronimo Stilton Special Edition) Overview

Eona ReviewWell, the book really does grab you. I couldn't put it down.
I was disappointed with the lack of development in Eona's character. Eona makes bad decisions and even when something goes down that isn't her fault, everyone blames her anyway - its not like she knew what would happen when she healed Ryko, but everyone blamed her for what was done to both him and the village they were in at the time. I expected her to be stronger, wiser, in this second book, but its like she learned nothing from the events from the first. Then though there was some sword play, and it was cool seeing her kick a little ass, there wasn't really any to speak of. Most of the fighting and sacrifices was all done by other people. She just kind of stood to the side and spoke on cue. It was just sad. She was like that in the first book but it was understandable given the situation, being thrust into this very new place and not understanding what was going on, but in this book I just expected a much stronger heroine, one that would communicate with others instead of keeping secrets as that did not work out so well for her in the first book, a heroine that I could stand behind, be proud of. But instead she was exactly the same and frankly, it was a bit embarrassing. By the end of it I just thought she was stupid.
And then the author decided that it would make perfect sense for Eona to develop romantic feelings for and even make out with Ido, the man who tried to RAPE her. Not that having feelings for the prince, Kygo, considering how many times he betrayed her trust, insulted her, and used her, made any more sense.
I won't be reading this book again, ever. These books are okay for maybe a little weekend escapism but I wouldn't recommend them for young, impressionable girls.

The Infection ReviewThe Infection by Craig DiLouie tells the story of six survivors traveling in an armored vehicle, while trying to find a safe refuge, after a mysterious virus infects millions of humans. The infected people collapse into comas; when they wake up, three days later, they attack all the non-infected. After just a couple of weeks, some of the survivors discover that the Infected are mutating into something much worse than zombies. The main theme that is woven throughout the storyline is the violent transformation of humans into monsters.
"There were things in the garage, Sarge. [censored] monsters. Dark shapes that flitted around the cars, always just out of sight. Then we saw one..."
This novel made me think, "This is what happened to the rest of the world, while everyone was reading about what happened in the grocery store in The Mist by Stephen King." I know I'm not the only one who has made this comparison; some other reviewers have even mentioned The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I understand why, but I think DiLouie goes into far more detail with his characters' suffering than King or McCarthy. The story is told with third-person narration in the present tense; flashbacks provide the personal backgrounds of each of the six survivors. Their reasoning and motivation for their current behavior becomes quite understandable, after only a few chapters.
"They have all done the things one had to do to survive. They have all killed people or they would not be here."
I usually try to imagine myself in the world that I am reading about, but I wanted no part of this setting. Living infected hordes are one thing, but DiLouie describes abominations that would rival HP Lovecraft's leviathans. He goes to nightmarish extremes when pairing the brutal twists of the viral outbreak with the amorality of various people that the survivors encounter. Of course, even though I felt mentality assaulted by the end, I loved reading very moment of this traumatic horror novel. The Infection Overview
