Wisdom of the Mystic Masters ReviewThis book contains the core teachings of the Rosicrucian order. This book is enlightening, just reading one paragraph causes a powerful lift in my conciousness every time I read it. They language is a bit antiquated but the meaning is very clear and concise. The ideas are complex, but they are broken down and expressed in the simplest way possible. There are no unneccessary details; it gets straight to the point.
But don't take my word for it. You can get "A Rosicrusian Speaks" for FREE on the internet. Just do a Google search for Joseph J. Weed, click on "A Rosicrucian Speaks", then copy the papers to your hard drive as a text file.
It is a collection of lectures given by Joseph J. Weed to Rosicrucian lodges in the 40's-60's. The wording is a bit unnusual but the ideas are the greatest treasures I have ever gotten for free, on the internet. Mariette in Ecstasy ReviewRon Hansen's MARIETTE IN ECTASY is yet another work that I have stumbled across (is there really such a thing as an accident...?) that will go onto my mental shelf of the finest books I've read. It's a testament to Hansen's imaginationg and writing skills that a story set in a convent in upstate New York in 1906 could be so compelling, so deeply moving, so filled with achingly crafted images that reveal everyday things in such a new light. The cloistered sisters, seen by outsiders as drab and similar in appearances, blossom in Hansen's hands as distinct individuals, their characters as varied and deeply developed as any in fiction. Their devotion, their hopes and fears, their humor, their emotions are all brought to life vividly -- and with the arrival of seventeen year-old Mariette into their midst as as aspiring postulant, everything about their lives changes.
Mariette -- blood sister of the current prioress -- is a very devout girl, given to episodes of ecstacy. Her father, a physician, decribes her as being perhaps 'too highly strung' for a religious calling. She is a naturally beautiful young woman -- and this fact alone arouses a bit of jealousy and suspicion among her sisters-to-be. As her ecstatic experiences increase in both frequency and occurrance, some of these suspicions deepen -- and we can see a veritable wall rise up dividing those in the order who love and adore her, taking her experiences as fact, and those who are certain that she is a charlatan, taking them all for a ride.
Which group is correct? The reader must come to this conclusion in his or her own way -- Hansen tells this story so wonderfully, leaving us to decide. He draws no firm, easy answers for us. This is not a Hollywood film story, all tied up nicely with a bow -- this is a story intended to make us think, to consider its events for ourselves, filtering it as we must, each through the beliefs, imaginations and intellects which we have developed over the courses of our lives. This is that rare level of writing that is honoring to its readers -- it tells a beautiful, meaningful story without hammering home a preconceived point. The Beautiful Side of Evil ReviewThe Beautiful Side of Evil by Johanna Michaelsen is her story of spiritual searching that led her to become a personal assistant to a "psychic surgeon" for 14 months in Mexico. It was published in 1982 at the beginning of the "Satan is everywhere" and "Why not Rock" movements in the Christian Subculture.
To be honest I got this book as a birthday gift last year. I really didn't care about the book didn't even really interest me. I remember all these type of books back in the day and how most of them seem way over done sensationalized and even some just pure crap. So I didn't have high hopes for this book at all. I don't know if all of what she has written in this book is the truth. I did do a Google search on her and this book. I didn't find any "She is a liar/scam artist" out there like I did for Mike Warnke and Lauren Stratford.
So I read the book. Some of it is just wild especially reading about how Catholic Priests came to Pachita for healing and guidance - you would really think they would be the last ones. Johanna walks you through her life and how she got there to become Pachita's assistant. And, then how she came to faith in Jesus Christ.
In the second half of the book she tries to explain a biblical model for testing the spirits and how to do it. She states she is Charismatic and believes in all the gifts of the spirit. She does go off on some weird tangents - such as - E.T. (the movie) with other things were/are a part of Satan's pre-evangelistic campaign to reach children. (You now see the 1980's Satan is everywhere - Why not Rock movement influence) She does take on her Charismatic brethren on a lot of different issues and for the most part is very biblical in her teaching on discernment and that is needed more often in the Church. (In the 80's as much as it is today.)
Over all I would recommend this book think and pray as you read. It is a better book then I thought it would be, and the last four chapters are pretty good primer on the Biblical basis of Christian Discernment.

Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East (6 Volume Set) ReviewThese books are my all-time favorites. Over the past 15 years I have purchased several sets of these books and tapes and shared these ideas with countless people. Some found them interesting, some inspiring, some didn't want to part with them, and some became obsessed with the ideas presented in these books as much as I have. What can I say, these books did change my life.
I understand that for a lot of people the ideas presented in these books seem totally outrageous and that some people try to discredit them looking for information that will prove that the adventures presented in these books are all fabricated. To a lot of people it is very disconcerting when their ideas become challenged and they'll fight to prove that their limiting beliefs are the sound ones even if those beliefs are actually crippling their lives and taking the joy out of it. Whatever we choose to believe, we'll always look for ways to validate our beliefs and we'll always find what we are looking for (proof).
Even though we may or may not be able to prove whether the stories in these books are factual, we call all apply the principles presented. The main idea of these books is that man is limited or unlimited according to the thoughts and beliefs he chooses. And even if your main goal in life is not to master the ability to walk on water, walk through fire, teleport, or spiritualize your body, you can still use the principles in this book to get as far as your imagination and faith will allow you. Then, if you ever get bored with the mundane life, if you ever begin to wonder if there's anything more to life, you can get ideas here that will keep you busy on developing yourself, growing, expanding and actualizing your potential as long as you so desire. And then, if you are really interested, you can find many other books that explore the same principles presented here to feed your mind, your imagination, and your passion for life.
If you choose to apply the principles presented in this book, instead of just reading the books once for entertainment, you will soon begin to experience events in your life that will serve as a proof that these principles are valid and applicable in your life wherever you are right now and your belief will grow stronger and who knows, maybe one day you decide to imagine for yourself what was previously unthinkable. Maybe one day you give yourself a chance to surprise yourself allowing the power that is locked within you to come out and express itself in all its glory. King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine ReviewI first read this book when it appeared in the early '90s, when the Men's Movement was everywhere (how long ago that seems). I have come back to the book many, many times for guidance and insight, finding relevance in different portions as I have aged, changed jobs, and faced new challenges. There is a reason why this book remains in print: it's an intelligent, clear, and well-grounded examination of the primary facets of men's selves and how men can use this understanding to improve their lives. The authors discuss each of the title's four archetypes in turn, explaining both the positive and negative aspects of each one, and how each can interact with the others. A particular strength is the authors' ability to describe each archetype in a vivid, three-dimensional (yet concise) way that enables you to *see* the archetype at work in yourself and others. I would recommend this book especially for readers who may be turned off by self-help works that are either too simplistic or too mystical.
