Baseline Selling: How to Become a Sales Superstar by Using What You Already Know About the Game of Baseball ReviewBefore I read this book, my first impression was that it would be about the basics of B2B selling (strike one for me). And on top of it, I'm not a big baseball fan (strike two for me).
But after reading Dave Kurlan's book, I can say it provides a useful and practical approach that many b2b sales people will find helpful (hit).
I like that Kurlan doesn't try to re-invent what already works. He uniquely pulls together a well thought out process based on his best practices along with those of other experts too. Also, his passion about baseball makes his analogies come to life.
My background is working with highly complex sales and selling professional services to executives in mid-size to F1000 companies. If that describes you, then you may not find what you're looking for here.
I definately see how Kurlan's approach can be easily replicated, taught and used as a coaching guide. If your a sales person, business owner or sales leader looking for a solid sales book, this one is definitely worth a read.Baseline Selling: How to Become a Sales Superstar by Using What You Already Know About the Game of Baseball Overview

Lessons in Mastery ReviewI have listen to almost all AR books and definetly he is a very good writer and motivator. he helped me a lot. My comment is not on his work but on this book particulairly.
Before you really go and purchase please do know that this book is no different than other AR books. His theory is based on one 6 steps formulawhich is repeated over and over again. I think he is good in marketing because he covers same formula with different packages. There is nothing new in this book than his first book.
However if you never listened or read his books this is the most comprehensive one. I advise you to purchase an audio version because u get more motivated with his voice. But if you had already other Anthony books, dont waste ur money. Try Power of Now!Lessons in Mastery Overview

No Excuse Leadership: Lessons from the U.S. Army's Elite Rangers ReviewFinally, a book on leadership based on truth and real life experience! If you read business books and are tired of MBA speak, pick this up and learn what it really takes to persevere, to challenge ones self and most importantly -- to set an example. It is no wonder that the Army has produced some of the greatest leaders in history -- they are learning this stuff while most of us are still deciding which happy hour to hit.
I also like the way the book was organized. You learn first hand what it takes to succeed in a seemingly impossible set of physical, mental and emotional challenges. And you hear it directly from the Rangers themselves. The author then guides and offers advice on how to apply these same basic tenets to all aspects of your life.
I had no prior knowledge of the military or Rangers specifically. This book is also excellent for anyone contemplating joining special forces within the Armed Forces. The next time I see a soldier with a Ranger tab, I'll know that he put his heart, soul and mind on the line for 61 days and a better persepctive on what it took for him to survive.
I love Barber's No-Excuse method of leadership -- he's the kind of boss I'd enjoy working for.No Excuse Leadership: Lessons from the U.S. Army's Elite Rangers Overview

212: The Extra Degree ReviewSL Parker writes on page four of this charming little pamphlet "So simple is the analogy, that you can stop reading right now, walk away with the opening thought firmly planted in your mind and benefit from it for the rest of your life." I'm not sure about the life-long benefits, but I agree that, had I stopped right then & there, I wouldn't have missed a thing.
Big fonts, bigger margins, poor writing & not even a particulary interesting premise. Most of the passion of the book falls in the last few pages where you are enticed to buy copies of the book by the 100's and give them to everyone you know. Let me save you $10. What Mr. Parker wants you to know is this: If you want something, work for it. Hard. That's it. And it's free.212: The Extra Degree Overview

Aspire: Discovering Your Purpose Through the Power of Words Review*****
I really enjoyed this author's book on personal development which he organized around the meaning of eleven words: Genshai (not treating anyone, including yourself, small), Pathfinder (leader), Namaste (respecting each person's authenticity and uniqueness), Passion (suffering for what you value), Sapere Vedere (visioning), Humility (being teachable), Inspire (breathing life into), Empathy (walking the path of another), Coach (mentoring another), and Integrity (being congruent). He emphasizes that there is much value to be found in drilling down and exploring words, and his book demonstrates this.
Aspire is a quick read chock full of valuable inspirational and motivational information that is not unique, perhaps, but organized in such a way to have more impact than other self-help books. It is also fun to read, filled with stories and excerpts from the author's journal that summarize the chapters for later reviewing. This is a book that is valuable to be purchased in hardback because it is one that you'll read again and again.
Highly recommended.

The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life Can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary Review
This short book focuses on a mailman Mark Sanborn met, a man named Fred. When the author first met Fred, Fred took an effort to get to know his new customer, and find ways to do a better job as a mailman. This book about the value of doing a better job, how to build relationships, and why we should take initiative. In short by going the extra mile we'll have a better life, and others will benefit.
It is a good book, and a short book. It is well written. The book is entertaining and at the same time makes many good points.
The first of four sections covers how the author met Fred the mailman, and how very quickly the author realized that Fred was a superstar mail carrier. The basics of what a "Fred" is are explored, and then the author mentions sightings of other "Freds."
The second section explains how you can become a Fred. Basically you need to build relationships with others so you know them well enough to then be able to be create, take initiative and make a difference.
The third section gives pointers on how you can help others grow into being Freds. The basic steps are to:
1) Find - how do you recognize a Fred
2) Reward - how should Freds be rewarded
3) Educate - how help people improve their Fredness
4) Demonstrate - model the correct behavior
The final section recounts the value and importance of being a Fred.
This is a book worth reading. It provides a good reminder and motivation to go the extra mile and do a better job.

Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality ReviewWhen I started reading Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky, I had grand hopes. I wanted this book to single-handedly pick my ideas off the dusty shelf in my brain and turn them into million-dollar businesses (or something like that). Maybe that is a little extreme, but I was instantly drawn to this book because I have a hard time making my ideas happen. I suppose I was looking for inspiration and a hidden secret on how to turn any old idea into something of functioning brilliance.
Of course, no book can accomplish that. But Making Ideas Happen is probably going to change my life. Here's the thing. This book is not filled with flowery prose or motivational stories meant to get you off your butt. Instead, this is a college course in taking your idea somewhere. Belsky mines the experiences of a lot of visionary people who all have one thing in common, they were able to make their ideas happen.
If you are still in love with the idea of your idea, you are going to want to get over that pretty quickly. The idea is not the thing, Belsky argues, the execution is the thing. Ideas flow freely, while doing something about them takes a lot of hard work and focus. Making Ideas Happens spends most of its time talking about the nuts and bolts on exactly how you can bring your idea to reality. Warning, it is not easy. Things will stand in your way. Heck, you will get in your own way. You will need great passion and determination. If you can muster those things, then the tips in this book will serve you well. If you just want to be creative all day, well Belsky has advice for that to, get a partner who is a doer.
Scott Belsky argues that you need three things to make any idea happen. He says, "you just need to modify your organizational habits, engage a broader community, and develop your leadership capability."
Getting Organized
If you ever want to move your ideas forward, you need to figure out how to organize them and then how to manage the process of working on them. Belsky spends a lot of time talking about how to manage tasks better. His suggested system involves three main categories, Action Steps, References, and Backburners. One of the problems with ideas is that they hit you at the most inconvenient times. You need a place to store new ideas while you move ahead on current ones.
Belsky suggests that you take a project-based approach to making ideas happen. Each major idea should be a project. Each project should have action steps (the things you currently need to do to move the idea forward), references (the information that feeds the idea but is not necessarily action oriented), and backburners (things for future consideration). Belsky and his team at Behance have actually developed a task management system that incorporates these ideas. It is called the Action Method, and I am currently using it with great success. Look for a review on it soon.
Being organized is the first step toward execution. Creative people have a tendency to flit about from one thing to the next. When a new idea strikes, we leave off on an old one. With a project based approach and a way to organize and create action steps around an idea, you can stay focused and stay creative at the same time.
Collaboration
The next major piece of making ideas happen is collaboration. Belsky argues that all good ideas need a team to move them to completion. I am sure you can find examples where this was not true, but Belsky has great examples of when this was true. Teams make more progress than individuals.
In the book, Belsky spends a lot of time explaining the importance of collaboration. One of the surprising benefits he brings up is skepticism. Having someone on hand to thoroughly vet your idea, to poke it to see if it holds water, is actually a very good thing. One of the best things you can do to make ideas happen, it seems, is to kill the bad ideas quickly.
Of course, there is a lot more that collaboration can get you. When you can get more people than just you excited about your idea, you can take it places. Layer that on top of your ability to organize your idea into a linear project, and you will soon be moving quickly toward final execution on your idea.
Another thing that Belsky brings up is the dynamic of the dreamer and the doer. If you are the dreamer, it may be in your best interest to find a doer to partner with so you can take your idea to market. A dreamer is creative and challenges the status quo. A doer may not see the big picture as well, but they sure can see all the little details needed to get the job done. Gary Vaynerchuk shares similar advice, and this is something that I personally (as a dreamer) have been pondering for a while. Dreamers are sometimes afraid of doers, because they think that they will have to compromise their dream. However, without a doer, sometimes their dream will never see the light of day.
Be the Leader
Finally, to bring your ideas to fruition, you need to step up to the plate and lead. You lead yourself first, by getting organized. Then you create excitement around your idea and build a team. To keep that team motivated and moving your idea forward, you must learn how to work with them, to make them feel important to the process. In the last part of the book, Belsky gives a lot of advice (again, taken from people who have had great success) on how to lead.
There is one big twist in Belsky's advice on leadership. For the most part, this section of the book could be in any leadership or management manual. But Belsky always ties it back to the idea. The idea is the engine that makes everything else possible. So when you lead, you are not doing it as a fancy-pants CEO. You are doing it as the person with the idea, and you are instilling passion every step of the way. Earlier, I pointed out that execution is the thing, not ideas. This is true, but in the end, good execution needs a great idea.
This book is for you:
If you have a great idea (or ideas) but can't get it off the ground
If you are already working on your ideas and want to execute better
If you need to learn a better way to manage tasks and organize projects (read the first part of the book)
If you want to create a dynamic team that buys in to your idea 110%
If you want to enable your team to get more done and achieve more creative resultsMaking Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality Overview

No Fear of Failure: Real Stories of How Leaders Deal with Risk and Change ReviewI greatly appreciate other readers' true and honest reviews on the books they read, and that's why I am particular upset when someone abuses the review system to give an artificial high rating. There are 8 reviews on this book (excluding mine), and ALL of them are given on either May 8th or May 9th, and ALL of them are from new reviewers who have never given a review whatsoever (and not another one ever since), and ALL of them gave this book a 5-star rating. Isn't that a little too obvious? Stop this kind of abuse!!No Fear of Failure: Real Stories of How Leaders Deal with Risk and Change OverviewCandid conversations with top leaders around the world on how they approached pitvotal moments in their careers
No Fear of Failure offers insightful, candid conversations with some of the world's top leaders in business, politics, education, and philanthropy-each giving a first-person account of how they approached crucial, career defining moments. Gary Burnison, CEO of Korn/Ferry International, the world's largest executive recruiting firm, sits down one-on-one with a highly select and elite corps, and together they openly discuss how they handled (often very publicly) war, economic downturn, corporate turnover, and even retirement. Together these world-class leaders show the risks one must be willing to take, as well as the vision, resilience, and compassion necessary to lead.
Includes original interviews with Michael Bloomberg, Carlos Slim, Eli Broad, Indra Nooyi, Drew Gilpin Faust, Anne Mulcahy, Vincente Fox, Lt. General Franklin L. "Buster" Hagenbeck, Coach John McKissick, Liu Chuanzhi, Daniel Vasella, and Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo
Explores the common traits great leaders exhibit: vision, compassion, resilience, competitiveness, purpose, humility, team-building skills, entrepreneurial spirit, perseverance, self-awareness, empowerment, and being a catalyst

Taking readers into executive suites, government offices, battlefields, and football fields, No Fear of Failure shows how great leaders make lasting impact.
